About Amy Matz
Amy Matz graduated from Elmhurst College (now, Elmhurst University) in May 2017 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education and double minored in Middle School Mathematics and Reading Education. Currently, Amy is continuing her education online through Grand Canyon University and will receive her Master’s Degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in May 2022.
Amy is a passionate educator in West Chicago where she teaches Kindergarten through Fifth Grade Mathematics and also helps students after school as a private Math and Reading tutor. Making math understandable, relatable, and fun for everyone is Amy’s main goal while teaching her students. Many times students will call Amy, Ms. Math as they go to her for math group time and teachers find it much simpler to say “Go with Ms. Math” instead of “Go do Math, with Ms. Matz.”
Amy met Mr. Maydanchik while she was a student at Elmhurst College and became one of the first Teaching Assistants for Adventures with Mr. Math in the early years of the program. She has watched the program grow over the years and is excited to rejoin the Adventures with Mr. Math team in the fall of 2021 as a teacher in order to continue reaching students and make math a fun and exciting experience.
When she is not teaching, Amy finds herself relaxing at home with her GoldenDoodle, Aurora (Rory), playing or watching sports like basketball and baseball (softball), or going for bike rides or short hikes in nearby forest preserves. Overall, Amy loves to stay busy both physically and mentally whenever she can and from time to time can find relaxation with a good book and bubble bath.
