AMC 10 is a 25-question, 75-minute, multiple choice examination in high-school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills. The contest is held in November every year. It is the first in a series of contests with increasing difficulty designed to eventually select the US Math Team that represents the country in the International Math Olympiad.

The examination provides an opportunity to apply the concepts taught at school to problems which not only range from easy to difficult but also cover a wide range of applications. Many problems are designed to challenge students and to offer problem solving experiences beyond those provided in mathematics classes. The AMC 10 assumes knowledge of elementary algebra; basic geometry knowledge including the Pythagorean Theorem, area and volume formulas; elementary number theory; and elementary probability. What are excluded are trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry.

AMC 10 publishes a number of Rolls for top students. Distinguished Honor Roll recognizes students who score in the top 1%. Honor Roll recognizes students who score in the top 5%. Achievement Roll recognizes students in eighth grade or younger who score 90 points or more.
