About AMC 8

AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills. The contest is held in November every year.

The examination provides an opportunity to apply the concepts taught at school to problems which not only range from easy to difficult but also cover a wide range of applications. Many problems are designed to challenge students and to offer problem solving experiences beyond those provided in mathematics classes.

AMC 8 publishes a number of Rolls for top students. Distinguished Honor Roll recognizes students who score in the top 1%. Honor Roll recognizes students who score in the top 5%. Achievement Roll recognizes students in sixth grade or younger who score 15 points or more.

Even though AMC 8 assumes knowledge middle school curriculum, there is no age restriction on participation. Students can begin participating at any age that they and their parent/teacher/mentor believes them to be ready. We recommend all middle school students and some fifth graders in our program participate in AMC 8. It is a great way to practice and track your improvement in a very challenging test.
