November MOEMS-M Contest Results

In November, our teams competed in the first meet of the MOEMS Division M contest. This year we fielded two teams, one made of 7th and 8th graders in Level 5 and another made of 5th and 6th graders in Level 4. The teams have 11 and 12 students respectively and so each student has an opportunity to contribute to the team score. While Level 5 team has the age advantage, Level 4 team is stacked with the seasoned veterans of our program.

In the first meet, Level 4 team edged Level 5 team 39 points to 37 points. These are both exceptional results, better than our last year’s team scores in any round! It will be great fun to watch the teams pushing each other to the greater achievements.

Individually, 6 out of our 23 participants earned perfect scores! Congratulations to Amal A., Anjali J., Elena K., Nate M., Rama B, and Renee Q. on their amazing start! Another five students earned 4 out of 5.

Students in each age group beat the national average by at least a full point! While all groups have done well, the Grade 6 group reached unheard of heights, beating the national average by 2.5 points! Way to go!!! Here are the averages by grade on our team compared with the national averages (the difference is shown in parenthesis):

  • Grade 5: 3.3 vs 1.9 (+1.4)
  • Grade 6: 4.2 vs 1.7 (+2.5)
  • Grade 7: 3.0 vs 1.9 (+1.1)
  • Grade 8: 3.4 vs 2.2 (+1.2)
