Join Our Team: Teaching Assistants
Teaching Assistants are responsible for supporting the teacher in his/her efforts. They help monitor chat and ensure students are on-task. TAs do not need to actually teach the content, but they should be open to learning new math concepts in order to support the students. Most of our TA’s are in high school or college, and they can choose to work for volunteer hours, if they so choose. Looking to be a Teacher? Go to this page.

We are two types of TAs: Assistant TAs and Lead TAs.

Assistant TAs are usually high schoolers (sophomores, juniors, and seniors). Some are former Adventures with Mr. Math students, and some are on their school math teams. Others are just good at working with kids. They typically work 1-2 hours a week, with some weeks off. Most classes are after school Mon-Thurs, and we have a few on Fridays and Saturdays.

The responsibilites of an Assistant TA mainly include the following:

  • Answering/monitoring students' answers in chat
  • Observing students and engaging students who do not seem connected or active
  • While students are working in the breakout rooms, provide guidance and support
  • Proctor internal and official contests
  • Assist Lead TA and teachers with other activities, as needed

Lead TAs are usually college students or high schoolers who have been Assistant TAs for us in the past. They typically work more hours per week (ranging from 3 to 8). They have the same responsibilities as Assistant TAs, but they are also the host of the Zoom room, create and monitor breakout rooms, and take over in case the teacher gets kicked out. Lead TAs need to be very responsible and responsive.
