2023-24 MOEMS Summary

15 students earned perfect scores, winning the George Lenchner Medal; All teams scored above the Highest Team Achievement Award threshold!

All of our teams scored way above the threshold for the Highest Team Achievement Award, which this year stands at 185 for Division E and 190 for Division M!

After five meets, the team standings for MOEMS Division E are as follows:

  • Grade 2-4 Team A earned 209 points.
  • Grade 2-4 Team B-Et earned 194 points.
  • Grade 2-4 Team Ev-J earned 225 points.
  • Grade 2-4 Team K-R earned 198 points
  • Grade 2-4 Team S-Z earned 202 points.
  • Grade 5-6 Team Aa-Ar earned 227 points.
  • Grade 5-6 Team As-Da earned 233 points.
  • Grade 5-6 Team De-Ji earned 207 points.
  • Grade 5-6 Team Jo-Mi earned 228 points.
  • Grade 5-6 Team Mu-Ro earned 223 points.
  • Grade 5-6 Team Ru-Z earned 239 points.

MOEMS doesn’t publish team rankings, but they do publish bands, and we can make estimates for our team’s placements based on statistical distribution.

There were about 2000 MOEMS-E teams who competed, nationally. Our five best teams all scored 225+ out of 250!

  • Our top two teams finished in Top-10 nationally. Five of our six regular grade teams finished in Top-20 nationally.
  • One of our younger teams finished in Top-20 nationally, and all five finished in Top-100 nationally.

MOEMS-E individual awards:

  • There was a total of about 60,000 participants. We had 320 students competing, with about a half of our students in Grade 4 or younger.
  • George Lenchner Medal (perfect score): 12 students out of the total 208 nationally.
  • Honor Roll (score 24 out of 25): 19 students out of the total 315 nationally.
  • Gold Pin (top 2% nationally, score 22+ out of 25): 69 students out of the total 1,200 nationally (so over 20% of our students are in the top 2%).
  • Silver Pin (top 10% nationally, score 17+ out of 25): 117 of our students (so nearly 60% of our students are in the top 10%). Again, this includes numerous students in Grade 4 or younger competing in Grade 6 or younger division.

The team standings for MOEMS Division M are as follows:

  • Team A-Ca earned 209 points.
  • Team Ch-Je earned 217 points.
  • Team Jo-Re earned 219 points.
  • Team Ro-Z earned 211 points.

Here are our best estimates as to how our teams fell in the rankings:

  • There was a total of about 800 teams. We entered 4 teams.
  • The cutoff for the top 10% (about 80 teams) is 190 points out of 250. Our teams scored between 209 and 219.
  • All our teams probably finished in Top-10.

MOEMS-M individual awards:

  • There was a total of about 19,000 participants. We had 110 students, with about a half of our students in Grade 6 or younger.
  • George Lenchner Medal (perfect score): 3 students out of the total 128 nationally.
  • Honor Roll (score 24 out of 25). 5 students out of the total 158 nationally.
  • Gold Pin (top 2% nationally, score 23+ out of 25). 15 students out of the total 380 nationally (so over 20% of our students are in the top 2%).
  • Silver Pin (top 10% nationally, score 18+ out of 25). 32 of our students (so nearly half of our students are in the top 10%). Again, this includes numerous students in Grade 6 or younger competing in Grade 6-8
